Once arrived in Lido, proceeding right you will get to the island of the Lazzaretto Vecchio, quarantine area for people and good under by the Serenissima. Going up Canale di San Lazzaro, you will get to the island of San Lazzaro degli Armeni which is worthy of a visit for its monastery, the various convent halls, and its gardens.
After that, going on Canale dell’Orfano, you will reach the magnificent San Marco basin, from which you will see the dock of the Piazzetta (with Palazzo Ducale, the two columns of San Marco and San Todaro, and the façades of the Biblioteca Marciana), the Riva degli Schiavoni (with the austere Prisons’ façade), the island of San Giorgio Maggiore (with its basilica and monastery), and Punta della Dogana, with its characteristic Palla d’Oro (“golden sphere”).
